IPL Aftercare Guide
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a non-invasive treatment designed to improve skin tone, reduce pigmentation, redness, and sun damage, and enhance overall skin clarity. It works by delivering light energy to targeted areas, stimulating skin renewal and a more even complexion.
Aftercare Instructions
To protect your skin and optimize results, please follow these guidelines:
- Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least 2 weeks
- Apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors
- Avoid heat exposure (saunas, steam rooms, hot baths) and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours
- Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate treated areas as pigmentation may temporarily darken before flaking off
- Avoid active skincare (retinoids, acids, exfoliants) for 5–7 days
- Keep skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer
- Avoid self-tanning products for at least 1–2 weeks
What to Expect
- Mild redness or warmth similar to a sunburn for a few hours up to 1–2 days
- Darkening of pigmentation (“coffee ground” appearance) before it naturally sheds
- Slight swelling or sensitivity in treated areas
These are normal and part of the treatment process.
FAQs
When can I return to sun exposure?
Strict sun avoidance is recommended for at least 2 weeks. For best results and to reduce the risk of pigmentation, avoid intentional sunbathing for 3–4 weeks.
When will I see results?
Pigmented areas may darken first, then flake off within 5–10 days. Skin tone and clarity continue to improve over the following weeks.
How many treatments are needed?
A series of 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart is typically recommended for optimal results.
